In 1990 Michael Doll started the business known locally as Midtown Door and Window. This business specialized in restoration and repair of wood and steel windows. Filling this special need in the various historic districts in Columbus, Ohio, provided Michael with a wealth of experience. As he continued working with old windows, it became apparent that some windows could not be restored. Many customers wanted new windows that were indistinguishable from the old ones. Some wished to incorporate their original glass into a new window unit. Using the old windows as a template, Michael began fabricating complete duplicate double hung window units that were pre-painted/stained, glazed, counterbalanced and ready to install. Local customers and the City's Historic Resources Commission were pleased that new old style windows were available and affordable, often equal to or less than the cost of modern replacement windows. In 2003 Midtown Window was launched to reach out to other areas of the U.S. to meet the growing need for new old double-hung window units. |
